Brief

A great idea that needed a much better app

Cars sit unused 96% of the time. Lynk & Co lets you subscribe to a car, then share it with others when you are not using it. Compelling on paper, but the app was actively working against that vision. Core features were buried, bugs eroded trust daily, and users simply stopped trying to share their cars because the process felt too uncertain. A full ground-up rebuild was the only option.

What we solved

One app, two home screens. Built around whether you own the car or borrow it.

Lock, unlock, climate control, the features people opened the app for every single day were buried inside a chatbot flow. Every extra tap eroded confidence in the product. Research confirmed it: users did not want a conversation with their car, they wanted a direct control.

Every control, instantly on the home screen

The chatbot was removed entirely. Lock, unlock, climate control, vehicle status, and find my car all live on the home tab. Zero extra steps for the actions users reach for most.

One app, two intelligently different home screens

The home screen now knows who you are. Owners see their car status and upcoming sharing bookings. Non-owners see available cars nearby and a quick path to booking. No settings needed. The interface adapts automatically.

A sharing flow built around trust, not just steps

A structured handover flow gives both sides clarity. Before any booking begins, owners record the car's condition in-app. Clear access instructions, live booking state, and a timeline view of upcoming activity make the whole experience feel accountable from start to finish.

Design System

One foundation. Every surface.

Built alongside a full brand refresh, the new design system gives designers and developers one consistent foundation. Colour tokens, motion guidelines, and interaction specs mean every component ships with behaviour, not just visuals. Both the app and marketing surfaces stay coherent as the product grows.

Car Sharing

From finding a car to handing it back

The sharing flow covers two sides of the same experience. Non-owners can find available cars nearby, pick a time, and get behind the wheel in a few taps. Owners get a clear picture of who is booking their car and when, with a condition report before every handover so both parties feel protected. The whole flow is designed to make sharing feel as routine as locking your car.

Awards

Winner Red Dot Design Award

The Lynk & Co app won the Red Dot Design Award 2023, one of the most recognised design honours in the world. The Red Dot jury evaluates submissions on four criteria: quality of function, aesthetics, usability, and responsibility. Less than 6% of all submitted entries receive recognition from the jury, making a win a meaningful signal of design quality, not just participation.
